A man in a district town reads that Honda now sells fewer cars in a month than Maruti sells in a morning. Then a workshop near him wants a technician.
He wonders whether he is joining something that is closing. A fair question, answered honestly below.
Read the Name on the Advertisement, Not the One Over the Gate
Honda Cars India builds cars. It runs no service centre in this country.
Every workshop wearing that badge belongs to a private company. Honda appoints it, sets its standards and supplies the parts. The wages come from the firm.
Check it yourself. In July 2026 a search for Honda service vacancies returned sixteen advertisements, every one posted by a differently named private firm — Korba, Tinsukia, Jalandhar, Kolkata and half a dozen Kerala towns.
Not one came from Honda Cars India Ltd.
So your salary, your PF and your letter are decided in a district office. There is no all-India Honda pay scale.
Honda Sells Far Fewer Cars Now. The Workshop Did Not Shrink With It.
Start with the uncomfortable part. Honda’s Indian range once ran to eight or nine models. The Mobilio went in 2017, the Brio in 2019, the Civic, CR-V, Accord and BR-V in 2020, the Jazz and WR-V in 2023.
What is left is small. In April 2026 Honda sold 4,069 cars here. The Amaze was 2,856 of them. The City managed 177.
Last financial year Honda’s volumes fell about 6% while the car market grew 8.4%. That is a brand under pressure, and pretending otherwise helps nobody.
Now the half nobody prints. Honda built its two millionth car in India in November 2022, and those cars did not vanish with the models.
They are on the road. They break. Only an authorised workshop has the parts and software.
A service bay does not care that the Jazz is discontinued. It cares that there are Jazzes in the district.
Honda’s own warranty page makes the point. A new Honda carries 3 years with unlimited kilometres, and cover can then be extended year by year.
Its Anytime Warranty is sold in one-year, 20,000 km packs to cars up to ten years old — machinery built to keep a car coming back for a decade.
Half the Honda Jobs You Find Are Not Car Jobs at All
This trap catches more readers than any other.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is a different company. Different factories, different dealers, different trade.
The scale is not close. The two-wheeler business reports over 6,500 touchpoints, 64 million customers and 63 lakh vehicles sold last year. The car business sells around five thousand cars a month.
So a Honda service job search returns mostly bikes.
In that same search, several were two-wheeler roles sitting among the car ones — a service manager in Kolkata, a scooter advisor in Howrah, a technician in Kollam. All said Honda.
Neither trade is better. But a car technician who takes a two-wheeler job has changed profession, and a bike mechanic in a car workshop interview is found out in minutes.
Check the vehicle before the pay.
Nine Jobs Behind One Workshop Gate
Most people picture a shed of mechanics. A service centre runs on nine kinds of staff, four of whom never touch a spanner.
| JOB | WHAT YOU DO ALL DAY | YOU NEED |
|---|---|---|
| General service technician | Periodic service, repair, diagnosis | ITI Motor Mechanic |
| Auto electrician | Wiring, sensors, 12V systems | ITI Electrician |
| Body technician and denter | Panel work, welding, alignment | ITI or on-job training |
| Painter | Primer, booth, colour matching | Learned under a senior |
| Body shop advisor or in-charge | Estimates, insurance files, delivery dates | 12th or diploma, and experience |
| Service advisor | Job card, estimate, final bill | 12th, diploma or ITI |
| Spare parts staff | Stock, issue, warranty claims | 12th pass |
| Washing and cleaning | Wash, vacuum, final finish | 10th, or nothing at all |
| Service CRM and supervisor | Booking calls, bay allotment | 12th, graduate or promoted |
Notice which of these Honda dealers were advertising. Body shop roles, again and again. That tells you where the work is.
The Salary Page That Answers an Indian Question in Dollars
Search for a Honda service advisor’s salary and a Glassdoor page for that title comes up near the top.
It reports $68,000 to $112,000 a year, middle figure near $87,000. Not rupees. Dollars.
Every entry is from an American state. Sixty submissions, none from India.
Indeed at least measures India: ₹21,681 a month from 34 salaries on its automotive technician page, updated 31 January 2026. Thirty-four people, for a country this size.
Then the strangest one. A job site’s car-washer page for Hyderabad said Sorry, no jobs found and listed nothing — yet still printed a range of ₹20,000 to ₹80,000 a month below.
So the table below uses advertisements a person could apply to today. One row is Honda’s own dealerships; the rest say so.
A Plant Job and a Workshop Job Are Two Different Applications
Honda makes cars at one factory in India: Tapukara, Alwar district, Rajasthan.
Greater Noida stopped building cars in December 2020. The head office, the R&D centre and the spare parts warehouse are still there — your parts come from that warehouse — but no car has been built there in five years.
Applying to the plant and to a workshop are two different processes with two different employers.
The Honda Training Institute That Does Not Lead to a Workshop
Honda does run a training institute in India, it does carry ASDC certification, and it is not the door most readers assume.
The Honda Vocational Training Institute sits inside the Tapukara plant. Its modules are manufacturing ones — welding, painting, assembly basics, apprenticeship — open to 12th pass and ITI students. It points at factory work, not a service bay.
There is no separately branded Honda course that hands you a workshop job. On the service side the route is the ordinary one: finish your ITI, join a dealer, then take the manufacturer training the dealer sends you for.
That is not bad news. It means nobody can sell you a shortcut, because none exists.
| ROUTE | TIME AND WHERE IT LEADS |
|---|---|
| ITI Motor Mechanic Vehicle | Two years, government fees, the base certificate anywhere |
| ITI Electrician | Two years, the road into electricals and diagnostics |
| ITI Sheet Metal or Painter | One to two years, straight into the body shop |
| Honda institute at Tapukara | Manufacturing modules, aimed at the plant, not a workshop |
| Dealer training after joining | Free, and how nearly every technician is certified |
What a Service Manager Checks Before He Calls You Back
Fewer Workshops Cuts Both Ways, and One Way Favours You
Be clear about the size of it. The last reported figure for Honda’s retail outlets was around 330, in November 2022. The company publishes no current total.
Set that beside Maruti’s 6,000 touchpoints across 3,000-plus towns and you have the honest picture. Many districts have no Honda workshop at all.
That is the bad news. If no Honda workshop is within travelling distance, this brand is not your door.
Here is the part nobody says out loud. A small network means each workshop hires against far fewer applicants than a Maruti workshop in the same town.
Where were the July 2026 vacancies? Korba, Tinsukia, Jalandhar, Sangrur, Meerut, Bhagalpur, Coimbatore, and a long list of Kerala towns — Alappuzha, Kayankulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kochi.
Barely a metro among them. If your town is on that list, you compete with a handful of people, not a hundred.
Why the Body Shop Is the Busiest Room in the Building
Look again at which Honda jobs carried a salary this month. Every one of them was a body shop role, and all of them sat at the top of the table.
There is a reason. Mechanical work thins as a model ages; accident repair never does. An old car is still hit at a junction, and an insurer pays that bill rather than a worried owner.
Which is why the vocabulary matters. A warranty covers a part that fails on its own; it never covers a crash. Crash damage runs on own damage cover, through a surveyor and an approved estimate.
Learn those words early. Men who can talk to a surveyor get moved off the bay and onto the estimate desk.
| TERM ON THE JOB CARD | WHAT IT MEANS |
|---|---|
| Third party cover | Compulsory by law, pays for damage to others |
| Own damage cover | Repairs the customer’s own car after a crash |
| Cashless claim | Insurer pays the workshop, customer pays his share |
| Surveyor | Inspects damage, approves the estimate |
| Warranty repair | A part that failed on its own, billed to the maker |
How People Actually Walk Into a Workshop Job
Filling in the careers form on Honda’s corporate website, then waiting for a workshop to call. That portal carries plant, office and R&D roles. Dealer hiring never passes through it.
One Badge Over the Gate, or Five
In a small network you face a real choice: a single-brand Honda workshop, or a dealer group running Honda beside three or four badges.
For a first job the group is safer: your employer is not resting on one brand’s numbers.
For a career the single-brand workshop has the edge. Brand-certified men move between dealers of the same badge easily, and that certificate is what you carry.
The Firm Paying You Is Smaller Than the Name Suggests
A famous badge makes a small employer feel enormous. Your provident fund does not come from the badge. It comes from the firm.
So do the check almost nobody does. Get your UAN in month one, register on the EPFO website and open your passbook.
If the employer’s share lands every month, you are fine. If the deduction shows on your slip but nothing reaches the passbook, you have found a problem in month two, not year four.
Two more habits are worth keeping. Ask for a zero balance salary account, so that a thin month costs you no penalty, and never hand your passbook or your ATM card to anyone at the workshop.
| CHECK IN MONTH ONE | WHY IT MATTERS |
|---|---|
| Zero balance salary account | No minimum balance penalty while pay is low |
| UAN issued and activated | One number that follows you across employers |
| EPF passbook entries | Proof the money was actually deposited |
| ESIC card | Your medical cover. A bay is where people get hurt |
Mistakes That Quietly End an Application
No authorised workshop charges you to hire you. Anyone selling a Honda joining letter, a uniform deposit or a training fee is running a fraud. Real dealers interview you, and the letter is free.
Two-wheeler and car dealers carry the same name and are separate companies. Men have travelled half a day to a scooter workshop for a car technician interview. Read the ad twice.
Eight Questions Job Seekers Keep Asking
Does Honda directly hire service centre staff?
No. Honda car workshops are run by private dealer firms. The dealer interviews you, fixes your pay and issues your letter.
Is it risky to join Honda when its sales are falling?
Sales and servicing are different businesses. Cars sold years ago stay on the road for a decade, and Honda sells warranty cover up to year ten. Workshop work is the steadier half.
How many Honda workshops are there in India?
Honda publishes no current all-India total. The last reported figure was around 330 outlets in November 2022. Check your district.
Is Honda Cars the same company as Honda two-wheelers?
No. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is a separate company with its own factories, dealers and trade.
What does a Honda workshop technician earn?
Honda dealers rarely print pay. Live car workshop ads in July 2026 put entry-level technicians at ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month, experienced ones at ₹22,000 to ₹35,000.
Which Honda job paid best at entry level?
Body shop roles. The only Honda dealership salaries printed this month were Kerala body shop jobs, ₹28,000 to ₹35,000.
Can I join without an ITI certificate?
Yes, at the bottom. Washing and helper roles ask little on paper, and a careful helper is often pulled inside within a year.
Is there a joining fee?
No. Any demand for money is fraud.
