A boy in Lucknow joins an ITI because the notice board said Hyundai curriculum. Two years on he is a certified technician, telling everyone he is going to the Hyundai factory.

Nobody has told him the truth. That certificate was never pointed at a factory. It was pointed at the workshop four kilometres from his house.

The Hyundai Board on the Gate Is Not Your Employer

Hyundai does not run its service centres. Each workshop belongs to a private dealer company. That company interviews you, fixes your pay, signs your appointment letter and runs your PF.

Hyundai’s part is the standard. It writes the repair method, supplies the parts, trains the staff and audits the work. Your salary slip carries the dealer’s name.

This is why two Hyundai workshops in the same district pay two different salaries for the same work. Two owners, two account books.

It also tells you where to go when the PF is missing. The dealer’s office. Not a Hyundai helpline.

So the next question is obvious. Authorised workshop, or the garage near the bus stand that is hiring today?

AUTHORISED HYUNDAI WORKSHOP
✓ Company training and a certificate
✓ Salary slip, PF, ESIC
✓ Diagnostic tools you cannot buy
✓ Warranty and insurance work
✓ Slower start, real record

MULTI-BRAND GARAGE
● Many brands, faster hands
● Cash pay, often no PF
● No paper to show later
● Owner decides everything
● Harder to move up afterwards

Neither is wrong. But a garage year leaves no proof it happened, while an authorised year leaves a certificate and a PF record. That gap shows at your third interview, not your first.

Your ITI Course Leads to a Workshop, Not the Chennai Factory

Here is what thousands of ITI students get wrong. Hyundai’s own skill development page lists 47 ITI tie-ups, at least one per state, plus 13 polytechnic institutes.

Now read what the company says those students get. A chance to be placed at Hyundai dealerships. Dealerships. Not plants.

The same page covers the tie-up with the Automotive Skills Development Council. Six academies, three courses, and the jobs named at the end are Service Support Technician and Washer in Hyundai workshops.

The company is not hiding this. It is printed on its website. But the ITI notice board just says Hyundai, and a 17-year-old reads that as factory.

The wait that leads nowhere

Finishing a Hyundai-branded ITI course, filling the form on the company careers page, then waiting for a plant call. That page is for plant and office jobs. Workshop hiring never touches it. People lose five and six months this way.

Now stop reading that as bad news.

1,675 Workshops Against Two Factories — Do That Sum

Hyundai builds cars in India in exactly two places. Sriperumbudur near Chennai, and Talegaon near Pune, which started building vehicles on 1 October 2025.

Two towns. If you live in neither, a plant job means leaving home and living on shifts. The service side employs fifty thousand people across a thousand cities instead.

Now the other side, from the company’s own 30-year release of 6 May 2026: 1,675 service touchpoints, 1,025 cities, 162 mobile service vans, and more than 50,000 service professionals already trained.

Sales outlets sit above 1,500 across 1,100-plus cities, reaching 78 per cent of India’s districts. Wherever a Hyundai is sold, one has to be serviced.

So the workshop route is not the consolation prize. It is the bigger employer, and the one in your district.

Eight Jobs Behind One Workshop Gate

Most people think a service centre only hires mechanics. It hires nine roles, and four never touch a spanner.

JOB WHAT YOU DO YOU NEED
Auto technician Periodic service, repairs, fault finding ITI Motor Mechanic
Auto electrician Wiring, battery, sensors, screens, alarms ITI Electrician
Service advisor Receive the customer, open the job card, explain the bill 12th or diploma
Denting and painting Accident body repair, putty, paint booth ITI or on-job training
Spare parts staff Issue parts, keep stock, handle warranty returns 12th pass
Washing and cleaning Wash, vacuum and finish before delivery 10th or none
Service CRM Booking calls, service reminders, feedback calls 12th or graduate
Workshop supervisor Allot bays, check quality, clear the day’s cars Promotion only
EV technician Battery pack, motor, charging faults ITI plus company EV training

Washing is the door nobody respects. It asks for nothing on paper, and a boy who washes carefully and watches the bays for a year usually gets pulled inside as a helper.

The Pay Numbers Most Pages Will Not Print Honestly

We will be blunt, because almost nothing written on this subject is. Indeed’s all-India page for automotive service advisor shows about ₹14,236 a month. Read the footnote. That figure is built on 11 salaries reported, last updated 16 December 2025. Eleven people, for a whole country.

PayScale’s automobile service advisor page says ₹1,98,659 a year, about ₹16,555 a month. That rests on 69 salary profiles, last updated 10 July 2025.

Indeed also keeps a Hyundai service advisor page for India. It carries a heading and no salary at all, and the reviews under it are dated June 2017 and early 2020.

So we used live job ads instead. Every line below says how far to trust it.

Monthly pay inside a car workshop

From job ads live in July 2026, not from salary estimate sites

Washing and cleaning₹8,000–20,000
Reliable — twelve live ads on one page, Nagpur ₹8,000–10,000 to Chennai ₹15,000–20,000

Technician, 1–3 years₹15,000–30,000
Fairly reliable — Chennai ₹15,000–25,000, Delhi ₹22,000–30,000, Bengaluru and Hyderabad similar

Auto electrician₹8,000–28,000
Fairly reliable — huge spread across Delhi ads; Chennai and Bengaluru sit at the top

Service advisor₹12,000–26,000
Fairly reliable — live Delhi ads; the top of the band is incentive, not fixed pay

Spare parts in-charge₹20,000–35,000
Not verified — only two live ads found, both in Kerala, both asking for experience

Denting and painting₹30,000–60,000
Not verified — one Hyderabad ad. A single employer is not a market rate

Service CRM and workshop supervisorNot known
Not known — no workshop-specific figure advertised anywhere we could check

The “generally ranges from” line is the worst offender. Jobhai’s service advisor page for Delhi says pay “generally ranges from ₹19,626 to ₹35,000”. Both real ads printed on that same page — ₹12,000–26,000 and ₹14,000–16,000 — start below ₹19,626. Two out of two. Scroll past the summary and read the ads.

Factory Work Is a Different Career Track

A workshop career and a plant career are not one job at two addresses. Our company guides cover the plant side, Hyundai included.

The Certificate That Decides Your Starting Salary

Training and certification

Two boys walk into the same workshop on the same morning. One has a two-year ITI certificate in Motor Mechanic Vehicle. One has nothing. They will not be offered the same money, and both know it.

The government route is the cheap one. A DGT-approved ITI runs the Craftsman Training Scheme, and the trades that matter are Motor Mechanic Vehicle, Electrician and Mechanic Diesel. A diploma in automobile engineering opens supervisor doors instead.

Above that sits the industry route. Hyundai runs 8 regional training centres, 12 technical training academies and 4 body academies, and the ASDC courses carry national skill certification.

COURSE WHAT IT OPENS
ITI Motor Mechanic Vehicle The standard technician entry
ITI Electrician Auto electrical, and the EV bay later
ASDC short course Service support technician, washer
Diploma, automobile engineering Service advisor and supervisor track
Dealer in-house training Free, but only after you join

What a Service Manager Checks Before He Calls You Back

An ITI certificate, or willingness to start as a helper

No ITI is not a full stop at the entry level

Aadhaar, PAN and a bank account

Asked for in week one, and the ads say so openly

A driving licence, and usually your own two-wheeler

You road-test cars after repair, so the licence is not optional

Enough English to read a job card

Nobody expects fluent speech, but the screen and manual are English

An engineering degree

Not needed, and it lifts a technician’s starting pay by nothing

The Reason a First Salary Goes Missing for Three Weeks

Banking and salary papers

Dealers pay by bank transfer and ask for your account number in week one. Open a zero balance salary account before you join. A missing account is the commonest reason a first salary sits unpaid.

Then chase the paperwork, politely but every week. EPF is not a gift from the dealer. It is your money, and the UAN carries it to the next workshop.

Keep a photo of every slip on your phone. Two years on, when you want a better job or a loan, three months of slips settle the argument.

ASK FOR WHY IT MATTERS
Zero balance salary account No minimum balance penalty on a small salary
Written appointment letter Names your real employer — the dealer company
EPF and UAN number Your PF follows you when you change workshops
ESIC card, if given Medical cover for you and your family

How People Actually Walk Into a Workshop Job

1
Stop applying to the company website

Workshop hiring never passes through it. Every month spent waiting is wasted.
2
Read the dealer’s name off the bill board

It is on the gate and on every invoice. That company is who you apply to.
3
Walk in on a weekday morning and ask for the service manager

Carry two photocopies of the ITI certificate, Aadhaar and licence. Not a folder of everything.
4
Ask your ITI which dealers they place with

With 47 tie-up ITIs and 13 polytechnics, placement cells often hold numbers the public does not.

From Gate Open to Gate Shut

Workshops open early. Customers drop cars on the way to office, so the gate is busiest between nine and eleven.

Work reaches you as a job card, and the supervisor decides which bay gets what. Free-service jobs move fast and earn the workshop least. Paid repairs pay better.

Saturday is the heaviest day. Sunday is usually off. The monsoon and festival weeks are busiest, since wet roads mean more accidents.

Ask one question before you accept: how is the incentive calculated. In many workshops it follows the branch’s output, not yours. A slow month for the branch is a slow month in your pocket.

The Electric Bay Where Nobody Is Trained Yet

Hyundai priced the Creta Electric from ₹10.99 lakh under a battery subscription plan announced on 2 July 2026. That battery is warranted for 8 years or 160,000 km. Somebody has to look after those cars for eight years.

An electric car is not a petrol car with a battery bolted on. No engine oil, no clutch, no timing belt, no silencer. Instead a high-voltage pack, a motor and charging electronics.

High-voltage work needs training and insulated tools. An untrained hand should not open that pack, and a good workshop will not allow it.

Now the honest part. No Hyundai EV technician salary is published in India, and no reliable India-wide figure exists. Anyone quoting an exact EV premium is guessing.

What the ads do show is the spread inside auto electrical work. Weak Delhi ads sit at ₹8,000–18,000 while Chennai and Bengaluru electrical roles reach ₹25,000–40,000.

So if you are picking an ITI trade this year, Electrician has the longer runway. EV training pushes you to the top of that band. It does not promise a jump.

Where a Body Shop’s Money Really Comes From

Car insurance and accident repair

A large share of a workshop’s income is accident repair, and a car insurance company pays most of that bill, not the customer. Insurance paperwork is daily work, not a side task.

The service advisor opens the cashless claim file, meets the surveyor who inspects the damage, then explains to an upset customer why the bumper is covered but the worn-out part is not.

Learn these four terms properly and you are useful in the body shop within months. Most people never bother, which is why it pays.

TERM WHAT IT MEANS ON THE FLOOR
Cashless claim The insurer pays the workshop directly
Surveyor Inspects the damage before repair is approved
Own damage cover Pays to repair the customer’s own car
Third party only The customer pays the whole repair bill himself

Mistakes That Quietly End an Application

Paying for a joining letter

No authorised workshop charges you to hire you. Anyone selling a “Hyundai service centre joining letter” for money is running a fraud. Real dealers interview you, and the letter is free.

Working on a verbal promise

Starting without an appointment letter leaves you no proof of employment and no PF record. Two years on you cannot show a single day of experience. Ask for it in writing in week one.

Eight Questions Job Seekers Keep Asking

Does Hyundai directly hire service centre staff?
No. Service centres are run by private dealer companies. The dealer interviews you, pays you and issues your appointment letter. Hyundai supplies the standards, parts and training.

Will a Hyundai ITI course get me into the Chennai factory?
No. Hyundai’s skill development page says its 47 tie-up ITIs and 13 polytechnics lead to placement at dealerships, and the ASDC academies name service support technician and washer roles in Hyundai workshops.

How many Hyundai service centres are there in India?
The company reported 1,675 service touchpoints across 1,025 cities, 162 mobile service vans and more than 50,000 trained service professionals, in its 30-year release of 6 May 2026.

What is the salary of a Hyundai workshop technician?
Live job ads in July 2026 show roughly ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 a month depending on city and experience. Ignore site averages here, some are built on 11 entries for the whole country.

What qualification do I need?
ITI in Motor Mechanic Vehicle or Electrician is the normal entry. Washing and helper roles take 10th pass candidates. A diploma points at the advisor and supervisor track.

Is EV work worth learning?
Yes. The Creta Electric carries an 8 year or 160,000 km battery warranty, so those cars need trained hands for years. But no Hyundai EV technician pay figure is published. Treat any exact premium as unverified.

Are these jobs only in big cities?
No. The service network covers 1,025 cities and the sales network reaches 78 per cent of India’s districts. District towns are where most of these workshops sit.

Is there any joining fee?
No. Any demand for money is fraud.
