Two showrooms stand a kilometre apart in the same city. Both sell Maruti cars. One says Arena on the board. One says NEXA.
A 12th pass candidate applies to both. He gets called by both. The pay offered is not the same, and neither is the dress code, the customer, or the pressure.
Nobody tells him this before he says yes. So he picks the wrong one.
The Board Says Maruti. Your Salary Slip Will Not.
Maruti Suzuki does not own the showroom you walk into. A private dealership company owns it.
That company signs your appointment letter, fixes your salary, and pays you every month. Maruti sets the showroom rules, supplies the cars, and runs the training.
So the name on your salary slip will be a company you have probably never heard of. That is normal. It is not a scam.
It also explains why two Maruti showrooms in the same district pay differently for the same job. They are two separate businesses.
The same is true on the workshop side. If you want the technician and service advisor route instead, we have covered it separately in our Maruti Suzuki service centre jobs guide.
Applying on the Maruti Suzuki corporate careers page for a showroom job. That page carries plant, head office and zonal manager posts. Showroom floor jobs come from the dealer — on job apps, or by walking in. Two different doors.
Arena and NEXA Wear One Badge but Are Two Different Jobs
This is the part most job pages skip, and it decides your working life.
Arena is the mass-market channel. It sells the Alto K10, WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Ertiga and Eeco. It is the older and far bigger network.
NEXA is the premium channel, launched in July 2015. It sells the Baleno, Fronx, Grand Vitara, XL6, Ignis, Jimny, Invicto and the e VITARA.
The customer is different, so the job is different. An Arena floor sees first-time buyers, cash-and-loan questions, family visits on a Sunday.
A NEXA floor sees repeat buyers and upgraders. Lounge seating, quieter conversation, coffee. Grooming and English get judged harder at the door.
Neither one is better. A NEXA badge looks good on a CV. An Arena floor teaches you selling faster, because you meet more people in a day.
Seven Desks on a Showroom Floor and Only One Sells Cars
Most applicants ask for one job: sales executive. A showroom runs on at least seven roles, and the quieter ones are easier to enter.
| JOB | WHAT YOU DO | YOU NEED |
|---|---|---|
| Sales consultant | Greet, demo, test drive, close the booking | 12th or graduate |
| Relationship manager | Same selling job, NEXA name for it | Graduate preferred |
| Receptionist / front desk | Greet, log the enquiry, route the visitor | 12th pass |
| Tele-caller / CRE | Call old enquiries, book showroom visits | 12th pass |
| Delivery coordinator | Papers, RTO, accessories, handover day | 12th or graduate |
| Finance and insurance desk | Loan file, bank approval, motor insurance | Graduate, commerce helps |
| Showroom / sales manager | Team targets, stock, dealer reporting | Promotion or experience |
Two of these are badly underrated. Delivery coordinator puts you inside every deal without a sales target. The finance desk quietly earns from every loan and policy the showroom writes.
Tele-caller is the softest entry point. It pays the least, but a good one is moved to the floor within a year, because the manager can already see how many visits you booked.
What a Showroom Really Pays, and Why the Averages Online Are Junk
We have to be blunt about the data, because the numbers floating around are weak.
Indeed’s page for a Maruti Suzuki sales consultant shows ₹18,385 a month. Read the small print: it is estimated from two job postings. Two.
Its NEXA relationship manager page shows ₹14,249 from six salaries, with a low end of ₹8,086. Yet a live NEXA dealer listing in Thiruvananthapuram advertises ₹20,000 to ₹28,000 for that exact role.
PayScale lists automotive retail salesperson in India at about ₹1.8 lakh a year, from 11 profiles, last updated September 2022. That is four years stale.
So here are the ranges from job listings that are actually live, with an honest flag on every line.
Factory Jobs Pay on a Different System Entirely
A showroom pays you partly on how many cars you sell. A plant pays a fixed wage with shift allowance. Different money, different life. Our company guides cover the factory side.
The Loan and Insurance Desk Is Half the Showroom’s Income
A showroom makes thin margin on the car itself. It earns properly on the car loan and the motor insurance policy attached to it, so nearly every sale carries a finance and insurance conversation.
Maruti Insurance Broking Private Limited is a broking entity licensed by the IRDAI, and dealer desks sell motor cover through it from insurers such as National Insurance, New India Assurance, ICICI Lombard, IffcoTokio, Royal Sundaram and Bajaj Allianz.
Learn these four words properly and you become useful in your first month. Learn them badly and every customer catches you out.
| TERM | WHAT IT MEANS ON THE FLOOR |
|---|---|
| Down payment | Cash the customer pays before the loan starts |
| EMI and tenure | Longer tenure, smaller EMI, more total interest |
| Own damage cover | Pays to repair the customer’s own car |
| Third party only | Legal minimum, own repair not covered |
What the Sales Manager Decides in the First Two Minutes
Which Channel Actually Reaches Your Town
This decides whether you can take the job without shifting city, so check it before anything else.
Arena is the wide one. Maruti’s last published figure put it at 3,069 outlets across 2,596 cities and towns, serving more than 82 lakh customers, and Arena models made up 68% of company sales that year.
NEXA is the narrow one. As of 27 February 2026 it stood at over 740 outlets in more than 530 cities, including 200 smaller NEXA Studio showrooms built for tier-2 and tier-3 towns.
Put plainly: if you live in a small town, your realistic option is Arena, or a NEXA Studio if one has opened nearby.
The volume behind these floors is real. Maruti sold 24,22,713 vehicles in FY2025-26, its highest ever, with 18,61,704 sold inside India. NEXA alone moved 5,04,409 units, about 28% of car sales.
The company wants 600 NEXA Studio outlets by the end of FY2030-31. A studio opening is the easiest hiring window in a small town, because a new showroom recruits its whole floor team at once.
Half Your Salary Is a Promise. Bank the Other Half Properly.
Sales pay swings month to month, so paperwork matters more here than in a fixed-wage job. A festival month can double your incentive. February can flatten it.
Open a zero balance salary account before you join. Dealers pay by bank transfer, and a missing account is the commonest reason a first salary lands late.
Then insist on a salary slip every month. Without one you cannot prove your income to a bank, and a loan later becomes very hard.
| ASK FOR | WHY IT MATTERS |
|---|---|
| Appointment letter | Names your real employer — the dealer company |
| Written incentive slab | Tells you what one extra car is worth to you |
| EPF and UAN number | Your PF follows you to the next dealer |
| ESIC card, if given | Medical cover for you and your family |
How People Actually Walk Into These Jobs
A Sunday in a Showroom Is Not a Holiday
Showrooms are open when customers are free. That means weekends are working days and your day off falls midweek.
Mornings are slow. You clean the display cars, call yesterday’s enquiries, and chase pending papers. The floor fills up after lunch.
Evenings are for closing. Families come after work, ask the same five questions, and go home to think about it. You follow up the next day, and the day after.
Month-end is the hard part. Targets close, the manager counts, everyone stays late. Festival weeks are the biggest earning stretch of the year.
The English Question Nobody Asks You Directly
Nobody in the interview says your English is weak. They simply do not call back. On a NEXA floor the buyer often switches to English halfway through, and the consultant who stumbles loses the room.
You do not need fluent English. You need about 200 sentences: greeting, features, price, finance, delivery date, follow-up call. A spoken English or communication course covers exactly that, and it is the cheapest raise a 12th pass candidate can buy.
Dealers run their own product and sales training once you join. Sit through it seriously — that is where the incentive knowledge lives.
| WHAT TO LEARN | DOES IT RAISE YOUR PAY? |
|---|---|
| Spoken English and phone manner | Yes — the fastest single gain |
| Basic computer and CRM entry | Yes — every enquiry is logged |
| Car loan and insurance basics | Yes — it closes deals faster |
| Paid “automobile sales certificate” | Usually not — dealers train you free |
How a Consultant Gets to Manager Money
Nobody jumps from the floor to manager. The ladder is sales consultant, senior consultant, team leader, then showroom or sales manager. Each step takes roughly two to three years.
Three things move you faster, and none of them is a degree.
First, sell finance and insurance well. A consultant who gets loan files approved cleanly is worth more to the dealer than one who only sells cars.
Second, protect your customer feedback score. Dealers are measured on it, and a consultant with clean feedback gets defended when targets are missed.
Third, be willing to switch dealer or channel. Arena to NEXA, or a bigger dealer group in a bigger city, is how most real jumps happen. Staying on one floor for eight years is the commonest reason pay stops growing.
Mistakes That Quietly Cost People This Job
No authorised dealer charges you to hire you. Anyone asking for a fee for a “Maruti showroom joining letter” or a NEXA ID card is running a fraud. Real dealers interview you and hand over the letter free.
“Twenty-five thousand” often means twelve fixed and thirteen if you hit target. In a slow month you take home the twelve. Ask for the fixed figure alone, and ask what the floor’s average consultant actually earned last month.
A delivery date you invented, or a discount the manager never approved, comes back within a week. It kills your feedback score and, in a small town, your reputation across every dealer in the district.
One last thing. Showroom staff are regular employees of the dealer company, whatever anyone says on joining day. You are entitled to an appointment letter, a monthly salary slip, and PF where the dealer is covered. If a dealer refuses all three, walk to the next showroom.
Eight Questions People Keep Asking
Does Maruti Suzuki directly hire showroom sales staff?
No. Arena and NEXA showrooms are owned and run by private dealer companies. The dealer hires you, pays you and gives the appointment letter. Maruti sets the standards and the training.
What is the difference between an Arena job and a NEXA job?
Arena is the mass-market channel with far more outlets and more walk-ins. NEXA is the premium channel with fewer, bigger-city showrooms, higher grooming and English expectations, and a higher value per car.
What qualification do I need for a showroom job?
12th pass is enough for sales consultant, tele-caller, receptionist and delivery coordinator. NEXA dealers often prefer a graduate, and the finance desk usually wants one.
What salary does a car sales consultant get?
Live dealer listings show roughly ₹15,000 to ₹24,000 a month on an Arena floor and ₹20,000 to ₹28,000 for a NEXA relationship manager. Salary-estimate websites for this role are built on tiny samples, so do not rely on them.
Is showroom pay fixed or commission based?
Both. You get a fixed monthly amount plus an incentive per car and per finance or insurance case. Ask for the fixed figure separately before you accept.
Do I need my own car or two-wheeler?
A car is not needed, but a driving licence is, because you give test drives. Many dealers expect you to have a two-wheeler for follow-ups and RTO work.
Is a showroom job better than a service centre job?
They are different. A showroom pays more when you sell well and less when you do not. A service centre pays steadier and rewards a technical certificate instead of selling ability.
Is there any joining fee?
No. Any demand for money is fraud.
