Hero MotoCorp operates eight plants in India and describes itself as the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer. Its most recent statutory disclosure records a total workforce of 39,297 people.

One number inside that disclosure deserves your attention before anything else. Of Hero’s 34,729 workers, 30,120 were on other-than-permanent terms and 4,609 were permanent. That is roughly six and a half contract workers for every permanent one.

This is not a criticism. It is how Hero classifies its plant labour, and it is disclosed openly in its own filing. But it tells you exactly what a realistic entry looks like, and any guide that skips it is not being straight with you.

What follows covers the plants, the roles, eligibility, realistic pay and how to apply. It is a career guide, not a vacancy notice.

Industry Overview

Two-wheeler manufacturing is the highest-volume vehicle industry in India, and Hero is its largest player by units. That scale translates directly into hiring volume — more shop-floor positions than any other two-wheeler employer in the country.

The Company

Hero MotoCorp was incorporated on 19 January 1984 and is listed on both Indian exchanges. For FY2025-26 it reported turnover of ₹46,830.14 crore, with exports accounting for 7.40%. It sells across 35 states and 52 countries.

In FY2024-25 it sold 59 lakh units — 54.76 lakh motorcycles, 4.23 lakh scooters, 0.59 lakh electric scooters and 2.87 lakh through its global business.

The Eight Indian Plants

PlantLocationEstablishedCapacity
DharuheraDharuhera, Rewari district, Haryana19842.1 million units
GurugramGurugram, Haryana19972.1 million units
HaridwarHaridwar, Uttarakhand20082.7 million units
NeemranaNeemrana, Rajasthan20140.8 million units
HalolHalol, Panchmahal district, Gujarat20160.4 million units
TirupatiAndhra Pradesh20201.1 million units

Dharuhera is the original plant, from 1984. Haridwar is the largest and has produced 25 million units in eleven years; it also carries what Hero describes as the world’s largest green roof and 1.95 MW of solar. Neemrana is known internally as the Garden Factory and houses the Global Parts Centre.

A Naming Point Worth Getting Right

Hero’s Andhra Pradesh operation is commonly described online as the Chittoor plant. Hero’s own annual report calls it the Tirupati plant, and separately states that it manufactures battery packs and VIDA electric scooters at a facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.

Sri City sits in Tirupati district, which was carved out of the former Chittoor district in 2022 — which is why older references say Chittoor. Use Tirupati or Sri City. If you are filling in an application, the district name matters.

Research and Overseas Operations

Hero’s R&D runs through the Centre for Innovation and Technology at Jaipur and the Hero Tech Centre in Munich, Germany. Overseas manufacturing sits at Villa Rica in Colombia and Jessore in Bangladesh, bringing total group capacity to around 9.4 million units a year.

Current Demand

Hero’s hiring demand comes from the sheer scale of its operation rather than from new plant announcements.

The Workforce Structure

Hero’s statutory disclosure for FY2025-26 is unusually clear, and it is the most important thing on this page.

CategoryPermanentOther than permanentTotal
Employees4,56804,568
Workers4,60930,12034,729
Combined9,17730,12039,297

Read the workers row carefully. Around 87% of Hero’s worker population is on other-than-permanent terms. Compared with its listed peers — Bajaj Auto disclosed 97 non-permanent workers and TVS Motor disclosed none in the same reporting year — Hero’s plant labour model is markedly more contract-based.

Companies classify plant labour differently, so this is not a like-for-like judgement about working conditions. But the practical message is unambiguous. If you join Hero on the shop floor, you will most likely join on contract, and conversion to permanent is genuinely competitive.

Plan around that. Use the contract period actively — add a certification, learn a second shop, build a track record — rather than waiting for conversion to happen.

Where the Openings Are

With eight plants across five states, Hero offers wider geographic coverage than most manufacturers in this series.

  • Haryana — Dharuhera and Gurugram, in the NCR industrial belt
  • Uttarakhand — Haridwar, the largest plant at 2.7 million units
  • Rajasthan — Neemrana, alongside the Global Parts Centre
  • Gujarat — Halol
  • Andhra Pradesh — Tirupati, plus battery pack and VIDA electric scooter manufacturing at Sri City

Investment Direction

Hero’s recent capital commitments have gone into electric mobility partnerships rather than new plants. It completed an acquisition taking its holding in Euler Motors to 36.67% in April 2026, approved a further ₹275 crore in May 2026, and disclosed subscription to equity in Ather Energy in July 2026. In February 2026 its board approved a solar power wheeling project for the Uttarakhand and Rajasthan plants.

No Hero announcement carrying a stated job-creation number was identified. Any specific Hero vacancy count circulating online is not from a company source.

Job Roles

Hero does not publish a shop-wise role list. The structure below reflects standard two-wheeler manufacturing practice.

Production Roles

  • Frame Welding Operator — robotic and manual chassis welding
  • Press Shop Operator — sheet metal stamping
  • Paint Shop Operator — pre-treatment, coating and finishing
  • Engine Assembly Operator
  • Vehicle Assembly Operator — final build of motorcycles and scooters
  • Machine Shop Operator — crankcases, cylinders, transmission components
  • Die Casting Operator — aluminium components
  • Battery Pack Assembly Technician — at the Sri City facility for VIDA electric scooters
  • Material Handling and Logistics Operator

Quality and Testing Roles

  • Quality Inspector — in-process and end-of-line
  • Engine Test Technician
  • Metrology Technician
  • Roll Test Technician
  • Supplier Quality Assistant

Maintenance and Engineering Roles

  • Maintenance Technician — mechanical, electrical and instrumentation
  • Robotics and Automation Technician — the Gurugram plant is described as integrating advanced automation
  • Die and Tool Maintenance Technician
  • Utilities Operator

Parts and Logistics Roles

The Global Parts Centre at Neemrana is a distinct operation worth knowing about — warehousing, picking, packing and export dispatch of spare parts, which uses a different skill mix from assembly and often has different entry requirements.

Supervisory and Staff Roles

  • Team Leader and Shift Supervisor
  • Production and Process Engineer
  • EHS Officer
  • Stores, Dispatch and Supply Chain roles

Daily Responsibilities

Two-wheeler lines run fast. A plant producing 2.7 million units a year completes a vehicle every few seconds across its lines.

A Typical Line Operator Shift

The shift opens with a handover, a safety briefing and a check of tools and torque equipment. The line then runs to a fixed takt, and each operator completes a short, precisely defined sequence before the unit advances.

Cycle times are much shorter than on a car line. That means high repetition and a heavy premium on consistency. Rotation between stations is standard, both to reduce repetitive strain and to build multi-skilling.

A Typical Maintenance Shift

Maintenance teams work preventive schedules during planned stoppages and respond to breakdowns during running hours. At these line speeds a stopped station costs a very large number of units per hour, so response time is the dominant metric.

A Typical Quality Shift

Quality staff run in-process audits, end-of-line inspection and rectification, log defects, trace them to a station or supplier, and support countermeasure work.

Working Conditions to Expect

  • Rotational shifts covering the full day
  • Short, fixed cycle times and documented standard operating procedures
  • Mandatory safety shoes, gloves, ear and eye protection
  • Standing work with high repetition
  • Company transport and canteen, standard at plants of this scale
  • Strong environmental infrastructure at some sites — Haridwar carries what Hero describes as the world’s largest green roof and 1.95 MW of solar

Required Skills

Two-wheeler manufacturers screen for a compact and very practical set of abilities.

Technical Skills

  • Reading work instructions, standard operating procedures and basic drawings
  • Correct use of torque wrenches, nut runners and hand tools
  • Measurement with vernier caliper, micrometer and gauges
  • Basic pneumatics, hydraulics and electrical safety
  • Accurate recording of production and quality data
  • Familiarity with 5S, Kaizen, poka-yoke and total productive maintenance

Safety and Compliance

  • Correct PPE use without prompting
  • Lockout-tagout discipline before machine intervention
  • Stopping and reporting rather than improvising a fix
  • Emergency response familiarity
  • Honest near-miss reporting

Language and Location

The working language follows the plant — Hindi at Dharuhera, Gurugram, Haridwar and Neemrana; Gujarati and Hindi at Halol; Telugu at Tirupati and Sri City. Functional English is useful everywhere for work instructions and system screens.

Personal Qualities That Get You Hired

  • Attendance discipline, which weighs heavily given how competitive conversion to permanent is
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts
  • Physical stamina for high-repetition work at speed
  • Consistency — the single most important attribute on a fast line
  • Team behaviour and clean handovers

Education Requirements

Hero does not publish plant-level eligibility criteria or a trade list. This section sets out what each qualification realistically opens.

After 10th Standard

A 10th pass alone is not a practical entry point. The productive step is a Government ITI trade, which takes one to two years and costs very little at a state ITI.

The ITI Route

These are the Craftsmen Training Scheme trades designated by the Directorate General of Training that map onto two-wheeler manufacturing. Treat this as sector guidance rather than a Hero requirement.

ITI tradeDurationWhere it fits
Fitter2 yearsAssembly, mechanical maintenance
Welder1 yearFrame welding
Electrician2 yearsPlant electricals
Turner2 yearsMachine shop
Machinist2 yearsEngine component machining
Mechanic (Motor Vehicle)2 yearsAssembly, vehicle testing
Mechanic Diesel1 yearEngine assembly and test
Electronics Mechanic2 yearsControls; EV systems at Sri City
Instrument Mechanic2 yearsCalibration and instrumentation
Tool and Die Maker2 yearsDie casting, press tooling
Painter (General)2 yearsPaint shop
Technician Mechatronics2 yearsRobotics and automation

After 12th Standard

A 12th pass with Science combined with an ITI certificate is a solid profile. On its own, a 12th pass suits stores, dispatch, packing and administrative support roles — and the Global Parts Centre at Neemrana is a meaningful employer of those skills.

Diploma and Degree Routes

  • Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Automobile or Mechatronics — technician and junior engineering roles
  • B.Tech in Mechanical, Automobile, Electrical, Electronics or Production — engineering roles in manufacturing and quality
  • R&D roles at the Centre for Innovation and Technology in Jaipur, which recruits engineering graduates separately from the plants

Documents to Keep Ready

  • ITI certificate with NCVT or SCVT marking, or diploma marksheets
  • 10th and 12th certificates
  • Aadhaar and PAN
  • Bank account details
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Any previous experience or relieving letters

Professional Certifications

The trade certificate decides eligibility. Everything else improves your position — and given how competitive conversion to permanent is at Hero, that matters more here than at most employers.

Core Certification

  • National Trade Certificate (NTC) — from a Government ITI under the Craftsmen Training Scheme, with NCVT or SCVT marking
  • National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) — on completing apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961

Safety Certifications

  • Industrial safety certificate or diploma
  • First aid and fire safety training
  • Forklift and material handling equipment licences
  • High-voltage safety training — relevant to battery pack work at Sri City and to Hero’s EV investments

Quality and Process Certifications

  • IATF 16949 awareness, the automotive quality management standard
  • ISO 9001 internal auditor training
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Yellow Belt
  • Total Productive Maintenance fundamentals

Skills Worth Adding on Your Own

Basic computer literacy is expected on the line. Familiarity with a touchscreen HMI, an ERP screen and basic Excel is worth acquiring before you apply.

Training Programs

Hero does not publish a named apprenticeship, graduate engineer trainee or technical training programme on its official channels. Programme names circulating on job blogs are not traceable to a company source.

How to Actually Apply

Hero’s careers section sits on its corporate website. Because the company publishes no annual scheme announcement, the practical approach is monitoring the careers section directly and applying to specific openings rather than waiting for a notification.

Hero’s Skilling Initiatives

Hero runs skilling programmes, but it is important to understand what they are. These are corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at community skill development, not plant recruitment pipelines.

  • Project Saksham — trained over 4,000 women as two-wheeler technicians in FY2024-25, with a stated ambition of 100,000 over five years
  • Jeevika — 745 candidates across 13 centres in FY2025-26

Project Saksham is genuinely notable. Training women as two-wheeler technicians at that scale addresses a real gap, and it opens a service-side career route. But it leads toward workshop and service work rather than plant production.

Apprenticeship Under Indian Law

Where apprenticeships are offered by any employer in India, statutory minimum stipends apply. Following the revision effective September 2025:

CategoryMinimum monthly stipend
Class 10 pass-outs₹8,200
Class 12 pass-outs₹9,600
ITI / National or State Certificate holders₹9,600
Vocational or 2-year diploma holders₹9,600
Technician (diploma) apprentices₹10,900
Graduate and degree apprentices₹12,300

These are statutory floors any Indian employer must meet, not Hero-specific figures. Register on the government’s National Apprenticeship portal regardless of which employer you target.

Salary Guide

Hero publishes no pay bands. This section separates what is documented from what is indicative.

What Is Documented

Apprentice stipends carry the statutory minimums above. On company scale, Hero’s disclosure records turnover of ₹46,830.14 crore for FY2025-26.

Permanent workmen are covered by state minimum wage notifications and, where union agreements exist, by wage settlements that are not published.

Indicative Ranges by Role

The ranges below are broad indicative figures for two-wheeler manufacturing in India generally. They are not Hero figures and should be confirmed at interview.

RoleIndicative annual range (CTC)
Apprentice (stipend basis)₹1.15 – ₹1.5 lakh
Contract operator₹1.8 – ₹2.6 lakh
Permanent line operator₹2.4 – ₹4.0 lakh
Maintenance technician₹3.0 – ₹5.0 lakh
Robotics / automation technician₹3.5 – ₹5.5 lakh
Quality inspector₹2.6 – ₹4.5 lakh
Diploma engineer trainee₹2.4 – ₹3.6 lakh
Team leader / shift supervisor₹4.0 – ₹7.5 lakh
Graduate engineer₹5.5 – ₹11.0 lakh

The gap between contract and permanent pay is the most consequential number in this table, and it is why conversion matters so much at this employer specifically.

What Actually Increases Your Pay

  • Conversion from contract to the permanent rolls — by far the largest jump, and the hardest to achieve here given the 30,120 to 4,609 ratio
  • Multi-skilling, particularly into maintenance, robotics or die and tool work
  • EV and high-voltage competence, given the Sri City battery operation and Hero’s stakes in Euler Motors and Ather Energy
  • Shift allowances, overtime and production incentives
  • Promotion into team leader and supervisory grades
  • Internal transfer between plants across five states

Employee Benefits

Hero plants are organised-sector employers, so a substantial part of the package is statutory — but the permanent-versus-contract distinction affects what you actually receive.

Statutory Benefits

  • Provident Fund (EPF) — employer and employee contributions
  • Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) — medical cover below the wage threshold
  • Gratuity — payable after five years of continuous service
  • Paid leave — earned, casual and sick leave under the Factories Act and state rules
  • Bonus — under the Payment of Bonus Act, where applicable
  • Maternity benefit — under the Maternity Benefit Act

Contract workers are covered by these statutes too, but through their contractor rather than directly. That is why the question of who actually employs you matters.

Common Plant Benefits

Large two-wheeler plants in India typically provide subsidised canteen meals, company transport, uniforms and protective equipment, group medical insurance, shift allowances and production or attendance incentives. Access to some of these can differ between permanent and contract staff.

What to Confirm Before Accepting — Especially Here

  • Who is your legal employer — Hero MotoCorp directly, or a manpower contractor? Given the workforce structure, ask this first
  • Whether the role is apprentice, contract, fixed-term or permanent
  • Whether the figure quoted is stipend, gross, CTC or take-home
  • Which benefits apply to your specific category
  • Shift pattern and how shift allowance is calculated
  • Whether transport and canteen are free or deducted
  • Criteria and realistic timeline for conversion to permanent

That first question is the one most candidates never ask, and at Hero it is the one that determines most of the rest.

Career Progression

The ladder at Hero looks like any other two-wheeler manufacturer’s. What differs is how hard the first rung is to climb.

The Shop-Floor Ladder

StageTypical durationRole
EntryYear 0–2Apprentice or contract operator
ConfirmedVariesPermanent operator or technician
Multi-skilledYear 3–7Senior operator, relief operator, maintenance technician
SupervisoryYear 7–12Team leader, shift supervisor
ManagementYear 12+Section head, assistant manager, shop functions

Note the second row. At most manufacturers conversion happens within one to three years. At Hero, with 30,120 contract workers against 4,609 permanent ones, it is materially harder and the timeline is genuinely uncertain.

How to Improve Your Odds

Given that structure, passive waiting is the wrong strategy. Three things help.

First, become hard to replace. An operator who can run three stations, cover a maintenance task and train new joiners is a different proposition from one who runs a single station.

Second, add a qualification while working. A safety certificate, an internal auditor course or a part-time diploma changes which grades you are eligible for.

Third, keep applying elsewhere. Contract experience at Hero is real experience, and it is a strong credential with the many other employers in each of the five states Hero operates in. Treat it as a platform rather than a destination if conversion does not come.

The Engineering Ladder

Diploma and B.Tech entrants follow a separate track. Hero’s employee category — 4,568 people, all permanent, with no other-than-permanent employees at all — is a very different proposition from the worker category. If you have an engineering qualification, that is the track to target.

Top Employers

Hero’s eight plants across five states put it near a large number of competing employers.

Major Two-Wheeler Manufacturers in India

  • Hero MotoCorp — Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh
  • Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India — Manesar, Tapukara, Narsapura, Vithalapur
  • TVS Motor Company — Hosur, Mysuru, Nalagarh
  • Bajaj Auto — Waluj, Chakan, Akurdi, Pantnagar
  • Royal Enfield — Oragadam and Vallam Vadagal, Tamil Nadu
  • Suzuki Motorcycle India — Gurugram, Haryana
  • Yamaha Motor India — Surajpur and Chennai
  • Ola Electric and Ather Energy — Tamil Nadu and Karnataka

The Clusters Around Each Hero Plant

  • Dharuhera and Gurugram — Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Suzuki Motorcycle and a dense NCR supplier belt
  • Haridwar — an Uttarakhand industrial cluster with several manufacturers, including Bajaj Auto at Pantnagar within the state
  • Neemrana — Honda Cars India at Tapukara and a cluster of Japanese suppliers in the Neemrana industrial zone
  • Halol — Gujarat’s auto belt, including Maruti Suzuki at Hansalpur and Honda at Vithalapur

Component suppliers around each plant hire far more ITI holders than the assembly plants themselves and are usually easier to enter.

How to Apply to Hero MotoCorp

Applications go through the careers section of the official Hero MotoCorp website at heromotocorp.com.

Apprenticeship candidates should also register on the government’s National Apprenticeship portal.

How to Spot Fake Hero MotoCorp Job Offers

An honest note here. Unlike several manufacturers in this series, no published recruitment-fraud warning from Hero MotoCorp could be located. That means there is no company notice to point you to — but it does not mean fraud is less common. If anything, the absence of a prominent warning makes independent verification more important.

Treat it as fraudulent if:

  • Any fee is demanded — registration, security deposit, medical, training, uniform or file charges
  • The deposit is described as refundable; it will not be refunded
  • An offer letter arrives before any assessment or interview
  • Contact comes only from a Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook address rather than a company domain
  • You are asked to send Aadhaar, PAN or bank details over WhatsApp
  • A specific “Hero MotoCorp recruitment 2026 notification”, vacancy count or CTC is quoted — Hero publishes no such notification
  • A consultancy offers a guaranteed Hero job for a placement fee
  • The apply link is a Google Form, a Telegram channel or a shortened URL

Verify like this:

  • Check the official Hero MotoCorp careers section before responding to anything
  • Confirm any email comes from a company domain
  • Be especially careful with contractor and manpower agency approaches — legitimate contractors do exist at Hero given its workforce structure, which is exactly what makes impersonating one effective. A legitimate contractor still never charges the worker

If money is demanded, report it on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or call the cyber crime helpline 1930.

Electric Mobility Investments

Hero has been building positions in electric mobility rather than announcing new factories. It took its holding in Euler Motors to 36.67% in April 2026, approved a further ₹275 crore in May 2026, and disclosed an equity subscription in Ather Energy in July 2026. Its own VIDA electric scooters and battery packs are manufactured at Sri City.

For a job seeker, Sri City is where the electric manufacturing experience is available inside Hero. High-voltage safety and battery systems competence is the skill area with the clearest growth trajectory.

Energy Transition at the Plants

The February 2026 solar power wheeling approval for the Uttarakhand and Rajasthan plants, alongside existing solar at Haridwar, points to continued investment in plant energy infrastructure — which creates genuine utilities and electrical technician work.

International Expansion

Hero entered European markets including Germany, France, Spain and the UK, and operates plants in Colombia and Bangladesh. Export-oriented production holds to broader regulatory standards, which makes the experience more portable.

The Contract Labour Question

The most important trend for anyone reading this guide is whether Hero’s ratio of contract to permanent workers shifts. At 30,120 to 4,609 it is the most contract-weighted structure among India’s listed two-wheeler manufacturers. Any movement there would change the career maths substantially — and it is worth watching each year’s disclosure.

Given how competitive permanent conversion is at Hero, having alternatives mapped out is more than a formality here.

Technical Alternatives

  • Maintenance technician in any manufacturing sector
  • CNC machine operator and programmer
  • Industrial electrician or instrumentation technician
  • Robotics and automation service technician
  • EV battery and charging infrastructure technician
  • Two-wheeler dealership service technician

Final Summary

Hero MotoCorp is India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer by volume, with eight Indian plants across five states, turnover of ₹46,830.14 crore in FY2025-26 and a workforce of 39,297. For an ITI holder in Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Gujarat or Andhra Pradesh, it is one of the biggest employers within reach.

The single most useful thing this guide can tell you is the workforce structure. Hero disclosed 30,120 other-than-permanent workers against 4,609 permanent ones — around 87% on contract. That is markedly more contract-weighted than its listed peers, and it means you should expect to enter on contract and treat conversion as a genuinely competitive goal rather than an automatic progression.

That is not a reason to avoid Hero. The scale is real, the experience is valuable, and eight plants across five states means both geographic choice and internal transfer prospects. But it changes the strategy. Ask who your legal employer actually is before you accept. Use the contract period to multi-skill and add qualifications. And keep applying across the cluster around whichever plant you join, because that experience is a strong credential elsewhere.

On skills, the clearest growth area is electric. Hero manufactures battery packs and VIDA scooters at Sri City and has built stakes in Euler Motors and Ather Energy. High-voltage safety and battery systems competence is the specialism with the strongest trajectory here.

Finally, verify carefully. Hero publishes no recruitment notification and no fraud warning that could be located, which leaves an information gap that fraudsters exploit. Be particularly careful with manpower agency approaches — legitimate contractors genuinely do supply labour to Hero, which is exactly what makes impersonating one effective. A legitimate contractor never charges the worker. No genuine employer in India charges a candidate for a job.
